National Coming Out Day!
Happy National Coming Out Day to each and every one of you! Today is a day to remind ourselves of the bravery we hold and the proudness we carry in our hearts. Coming out means we are self-loved, self-accepted, and are allowing ourselves to feel complete in who we are. It is when we can truly recognize our genuine authenticity and celebrate every part of that, that falls into our every day lives. And while it has now been over three years since I came out, this day continues to mean the world to me. I think back to how I came out to my family, my friends, and most importantly to myself. A moment in my life I will forever be grateful for.
Since that time, I continue to look at who I am today and remind myself of the courage and strength I had in listening to my heart and allowing myself to act on my feelings towards women. This was an extremely pivotal part in my life and I am proud to say that I am a lesbian. I want each of you to be proud of who you are and to know that you are more than deserving to embrace what makes you, you. We all have our different stories, backgrounds, and hardships we may face in building the confidence to come out, but that's what brings us together. It is our willingness to hear one another that makes this community a safe space for us to express who we are and I cherish it greatly.
Continue to love yourself and be proud. Allow yourself the time to listen to your heart and love your curiosities; if I hadn't done so, I wouldn't be where I am today. Never feel the pressure to come out on someone else's terms other than your own. This is your life, your journey, and let yourself live every moment of it the way you know is meant for you. Happy National Coming Out Day to all of you. I am proud to be among so many queer dancers who continue to inspire me each and every day.
